Blood, Soca Kartel takes titles in MQI/98.1 Soca Royale

The motor racing circuit at Bushy Park, St.Philip, provided a picture-perfect setting for the calypso battle between the best artists drawn in the McEnearneyQuality Inc. (MQI)/98/1 Soca Royale, one of the major rounds on the annual Crop Over Festival.

And confident finalists pulled out all the stops in the race for the titles as fans took every vantage at the motoring racing facility, but it was Blood who won the Sweet Soca title and a brand new Kia Rio, with his song ‘Ah Can’t Wait,  as he celebrated his 30th year of competition.

And as if to show that his performance in that section of the competition was no fluke, he teamed up with last year’s winner Mikey as ‘Soca Kartel’ and took the Party Monarch title with the song ‘Roll It’.

Biggie Irie picked up second spot in the Sweet Soca competition with Need a Riddim, while Red Plastic bag was third with Right Now. Mikey finished fourth with ‘Enjoy Meh Life’.

In the Party Monarch competition, Mikey was second with ‘Ready Again’, Blood was third with ‘Mo Fyah’ while Khiomal was fourth with ‘De Recipe’. Calypsonians made off with nearly Bds. $300,000.00 in cash and prizes.
