Ford Focus holding on at top

The ’best-selling’ Ford Focus

The Ford Focus is still the best-selling vehicle nameplate in the world.

The impressive member of the ‘blue oval’, named to the top spot last year, retained that ranking through the first quarter of this year with global vehicle registrations up 18 percent compared with the same period in last year.

Based on Ford’s analysis of Polk’s latest global vehicle registration data, the Ford Focus, now produced in nine plants worldwide, gives the automaker the capacity to build more than two Focus vehicles every minute.

And Polk’s latest global registration shows that 288,724 Focus vehicles were registered in the quarter ending March 31, fueled by strong demand in key markets such as China and Brazil.

In China, registrations reached 104,065 vehicles; up 153 percent compared with the first quarter of 2012, while in Brazil, demand rose 18 percent, with 7,227 vehicles registered during the period.

To meet growing customer demand for Focus, Ford ramped up capacity worldwide, and in July, the company’s plant in Pacheco, Argentina, became the latest to produce Focus on a global platform.

Now built in nine plants on four continents; the United States, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Russia, Germany and Argentina gives the automaker a combined capacity to produce more than 1.5 million Focus vehicles annually at a rate of more than two vehicles per minute.

The Focus is available in a range of models depending on market, including sedan, hatchback, wagon, an electric-powered model, and the high-performance Focus ST.
