In his father’s footsteps, but is looking to win tonight’s Junior Calypso title.

He is eight-year old West Terrace Primary School’s student Raanan Hackett who is hoping to go one better than his well-known father, former calypsonian Randolph “Cockroach” Hackett when he comes up against a strong cast in the Junior Calypso Monarch finals at the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium Saturday night.

And his preparation received a shot in the arm yesterday when multi-brand dealer, McEnearney Quality Inc. (MQI) presented a cheque to the youngster to assist with final preparations for the rigors which are ahead of him.

The presentation was made by Mazda’s International manager, Kota Inoue, who is currently in Barbados on a visit to MQI.

A first-timer in the competition, the youngster, after receiving the cheque,  thanked MQI for their assistance and said he is looking forward to the competition and giving a good performance.

“I will be singing a calypso called ‘My Dream’, which was written by my father Randolph and the Mighty Gabby.  It is a song about dreaming to be a daddy and of the future, and I am looking forward to the show”, young Hackett explained.

Apart from the cheque, the young junior monarch finalist was also presented with a hatchback miniature Mazda 3 car.

Marketing Manager of MQI Margaret Hoyte said the presentation and recognition is part of the company’s social commitment to the community in which it serves and is expecting Hackett to do well tonight.

MQI has been very active in the development of culture and the arts, and we see our involvement with the junior calypso competition as an investment for the future of the young artists in general and Barbados in particular...
