MQI supporting Ford Focus in rally

It’s official.

Barbados ’Paul ‘The Surfer’ Bourne will be partnered by Scottish co-driver Stuart Loudon in Sol Rally Barbados 2014 which starts with a Power Stage at Bushy Park Friday May 30 at 6:30PM.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at multi-brand automotive dealer McEnearneyQualityIncorporated (MQI) yesterday and attended by officials Banks Holdings Ltd, Chefette Restaurants Ltd., FLOW and MQI, sponsors of Bourne’s Chefette/Banks/MQI/Flow Ford Focus WRC07.

Marketing Manager Margaret Hoyte in welcoming the officials said McEnearneyQuality Inc. (MQI) said Rally Barbados always brings a great buzz to all Barbados and Barbadians and they are happy to be associated with Bourne.

“He not only has a Ford Focus as his racing car, but his private vehicle is a Ford Kuga and he is not only a good ambassador for the brand, but also a focussed winner”, Hoyte said.

The marketing manager said all eyes and much attention is given to Sol Rally Barbados and Bourne and Loudon have their full support. “We expect good results from them and their team and the preparations look good”.

The Scottish rally co-driver will be competing at the highest level of the sport for the first time and has just completed his most successful year yet, contesting the WRC Academy with fellow Scot John MacCrone aboard a Ford Fiesta R2.

“Local knowledge is a great factor in Sol Rally Barbados and the new co-driver will serve to complement my grasp of the local conditions”, Bourne noted.

He said too, that the combination of car, co-driver and himself were working well together and are ready to take on the competition in the WRC-1 group, but pointed out that they were not taking anyone lightly, but had a plan in place and will develop it as the rally progressed.

Engineer Martin Wilkinson said he nd the ‘works’ crew were all awaiting the start of the rally as the car is ready for whatever comes its way.

“The car is ready. We know that they are others in the group, but the Focus has been prepared for the rigors of the rally and we are satisfied. All we have to do now is await the results”, Wilkinson said.

Managing Director of new telecommunications FLOW, Niall Sheehy said his company was pleased to be associated with Bourne, as they were the fastest broadband network in the island and that ‘speed’ and Bourne would blend well together.

“We did not have to it a second thought... the two are a perfect fit”, the managing director added.

Brand Manager for Banks, Charles Walcott told the gathering that as they had been with ‘The Surfer’ as Bourne affectionately called in motoring circles,  welcomed FLOW and looked forward working with them.

The other sponsor, Chefette, through their managing director Ryan Haloute told the gathering that since joining with Paul, the synergies had blended well together and they were looking forward to another good year.

“As part of the Chefette Speed Team the Chefette family fully supports sports, but motorsports has a great following and we are looking forward to a podium finish from Paul and Stuart this year”, Haloute noted.

But Bourne is not the only driver fielding a new co-driver, former Trinidad and Tobago champion driver, John ‘Penti’ Powell will have Hugh Hutchinson along side in the Intercontinental Shipping/Trinidad Mooring & Launch Services Ford Focus WRC08 as regular co-driver had to withdraw at short notice.

Solo Rally Barbados 2014 will be contested from May 30 - June 1. The presentation will take place at The BoatYard, Bridgwtown on Monday June 2 starting at 2pm.
