Mayers,Norris take two wheel drive honours in Ford Fiesta

Ford Fiesta in winners’ row Barry Mayers and Ben Norris.

Congratulations are in order for Barry Mayers and Ben Norris.

And in rallying or racing the name associated with the top spot has been Ford.

Sales and Marketing Manager at local dealers McEnearneyQuality Inc. (MQI) Margaret Hoyte said no praise is too high for winning and Mayers and Norris showed that the car they chose for the job, did the job.

“First on race day, is what Ford is known for and winning fastest two wheel drive title in an event such as Sol Rally Barbados is an excellent achievement”, she noted.

The new Sol Rally Barbados two wheel drive champion Mayers was also high in praise for his sponsors Chefette/Rubis/Digicel/DHL/Hankook/Illusion Graphics,  as well his technical team which included two British technical specialists along with his father Stephen and his brother Roger, who had been sidelined from the second day of the three day Sol Rally Barbados 2017.

On reflection Mayers called it three long tough days of rallying but he is looking forward to the remainder of the season which will include the Williams/Digicel Int. Race meet at Bushy Park where he will be switching to a Toyota Starlet, and also working on handling issues with the Fiesta which is powered by a Ford YB 2.2 litre engine and is rear wheel drive.

“I was trying to defend sixth place overall from Roger Hill but the Fiesta bogged on the startline and as we were so close he took the higher spot, but it was a great rally with lots of fun”, he added.

Mayers and Norris were followed home in the two wheel drive category by SM3 champions Justin Campbell and Juan Watts, Andrew Jones and Lindsay Pilkington, SM1 winner Neil Corbin and Matthew Staffner, and David St Hill and Ian Grimes as well as Paul Horton and Dwayne Forde.
