Mazda 3: A sporty feeling

The new Mazda 3.

The Mazda 3 continues to offer a sporty feel, but it’s not held back by some of the compromises that the Miata has to contend with, making it an easier all-weather car to live with.

The 184 hp output from the 2.5-liter I4 does not sound like a lot in this day and age, but it is plenty to get the Mazda 3 moving in just about any traffic condition. The six-speed automatic is quick and intuitive in practice, and didn’t linger in the higher gears too long.

As other sporty Mazdas, the Mazda 3 offers wonderful cornering abilities, though with temperatures firmly in the single digits and plenty of ice on the roads during the test drive the Mazda 3 still stayed impressively flat in just about any type of cornering maneuver, and thankfully it did not translate into an overly harsh suspension.

The car also has a good amount of go-kart feel, and it hides its size well. The Mazda line is available from local dealers MQI, Wildey, St.Michael.
