Mini Test Drive at Bushy Park

'The Mini Test Drive at Bushy Park was just fine with buyers'.

That’s how Brand Executive for BMW at McEnearneyQuality Inc., Johnny Tudor, described the recently-held ‘hands-on’ event at Bushy Park.

The afternoon exercise at the St. Philip racing facility for specially invited guests provided an ‘up close and personal’ experience for Barbadians and the vehicles from German luxury carmaker BMW.

“For 2017, the Mini lineup sees the addition of an all-new Countryman; the brand's quasi-crossover, which drips with retro character, even though underneath it's basically a BMW X1, but it was an impressive afternoon and all that is left for us at MQI to do, is answer the demands of the buying public”, Tudor added.

According to the Brand Executive, we have divided Mini's lineup into two flavors: Cooper, which encompasses three- and five-door variants plus the convertible, and Countryman, which denotes the high-riding five-door and they found favour with everyone.

The Mini Countryman, based on the BMW X1,  the all-new crossover,  is offered in a plug-in hybrid variant for the first time ever,  and will come later and but powertrain lineup mirrors the Cooper apart from the hybrid.

Participants at the Test Drive found the 2017 Mini Cooper one of the most fun cars to drive and liked its body styles and kinds - there's the two- or four-door Mini Cooper and a four-door Mini Clubman with side-swinging doors at the rear.

The Cooper comes in several different flavors, all of which can be customized to your budget: Cooper, Cooper S, Cooper Convertible, and Clubman. Three turbocharged powertrains are available in the Cooper and are also offered with four doors, which are standard on the Clubman. The Clubman is the only Cooper available with all-wheel-drive.

The base turbocharged 1.5-liter 3-cylinder makes 124 horsepower, while the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 in Cooper S models makes 189 hp.  At the top is the 2.0-liter turbo-4 in the John Cooper Works edition.

Features and customisation abound, as the Mini is handsomely equipped as standard with a 6.5-inch center screen, Bluetooth connectivity, 15-inch wheels (16-inch on Cooper S), and by the numbers, the Cooper is 4.5 inches longer, 1.7 inches wider, and 0.3 inches taller than the Cooper it replaced in 2014.

The four-door Cooper Hardtop adds 10 more inches, and the Clubman wagon adds nearly eight inches on to that figure.

It can also be pressed into cargo detail, as it received top marks from the International Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), including the agency's prestigious Top Safety Pick nod.
